I believe this is my first tutorial... It will probably only really be helpful to people who use photoshop, but some of it might apply to SAI and other other software (I just don't know because I only use photoshop.)
This is a basic walkthrough of "sketch" to final product. I tried not to be too repetitive, so if you skip over parts you might get lost since I reference things I had already talked about.
I also put a few tips and reminders throughout, things I've seen people struggle with or ignore...

I'm no expert so don't take this as me telling you what you should be doing, this is just how I do my character design pieces...
