Jade (ANIMATED) by SpatialHeather Jade (ANIMATED) by SpatialHeather
Another Animation done using my pony ... "base"
this time of filly Changeling, Jade, testing out the 'brake' on her new prosthetic.

EDIT2: the number of views this has gotten [due to the "list"] kinda sickens me. :/
on the other hand, I'd like to thank those who have come with kind words of support. You are all very kind and restore my hope that "love and tolerance" are still ideas that -people- not just bronies hold sacred.

I came here from Terribleponies, but... this is really cute! A lot of ponies are on there just because they aren't perfectly fitting to canon, and aren't actually that bad. To be honest, I usually go on terribleponies to give support to the artists... So, lovely character, and hope there aren't many people hating 'cause she's not canonical!

Thanks Chelsea :iconrubcheeksplz: it doesn't bother me so much that one of my characters is on there, it bothers me more that that sort of blog even exists. Especially the derogatory way in which some of the characters are described, and just the whole idea of a public hate/shaming list... its so opposite the idea of "love and tolerate"

how are people finding out about this? I mentioned it generically on tumblr, but you're not the first to find this piece and say things about the situation that have gone a long way to sooth the hurt caused by this "listing"... so thanks again :)

I dont see why anyone would say shes a bad OC.
I think shes insanely adorable and I just adore her design. I actually commend you on giving her your own unique design for although all known changelings (Besides Chrysalis) look alike making an OC look like those from the show wouldnt be an OC at all.

I don't really feel like she varies that much from them. The biggest difference is probably her shell color and her eyes. Her eyes had already been changed though (this is a really old piece considering I've only been drawing ponies since september of '12) to be more like crysalis instead of a normal pony's and the shell is just green instead of blue- Thus her name- JADE.

I think she looks great so keep up the awesome work and ignore the people who tell you otherwise.
Besides changelings would be boring if they all looked alike.

The more likely reason this character ended up on Terrible Ponies is because it's a differently colored Changeling with a mane and tail. However, the prosthetic could be considered too different for a normal fan character (for lack of better phrasing).

hmm, so apparently being cripple means you're not a real person *rolls eyes*

How did you get to that conclusion from "Mane, color, eyes, horn, and cripple." ?

mainly the cripple part. I don't see why it was necessary to put that in there. The rest, fine. I personally don't beleive that the changelings we've seen in the show are representative of the entire species, but I understand why others don't agree with that. Otherwise there would be no changeling OCs since they all looked exactly the same except for crysalis... So I understand why someone who thinks all changelings look exactly the same woudl have an issue with her mane, color, eyes, and horn.

What I don't understand is why cripple was included in that list. If being cripple contributes to a design flaw, what is that saying about people who are either born without a limb (like this OC) or become amputees later on in life? Why is that a "terrible" flaw? (They're changelings. They're already full of holes.) But hey, if being "cripple" contributes to something being terrible, I guess that's an opinion. Just like judging people for their skin tone, eye color, weight, height, gender, and sexual orientation - all things that people judge people for and use as excuses to treat them as "less of a person" than themselves or others.

I've had ponies show up on these things before, and it just made me laugh. I think it's stupid and juvenile think to do, but whatever. (Hey, why is cyber bullying something to be concerned about, right? It's just "opinions".) This time would have been the same, except for that last item on the list, and that it was included just rubs me the wrong way.

*shrug*

Ah, I see what you mean. Thank you for explaining your view to me, and yes, adding cripple onto the list was quite odd. But I'm sure it was one of those hardcore canon fans that wont change anything about the show.

I don't think you should really compare disliking missing limbs on something that isn't real to actually hating real people with that problem.
I mean that's like saying just because I enjoy violence in a movie means I advocate killing real people.
keep in mind that there is a big difference between fiction and reality.

I think the reason 'cripple' was included is because a crippled OC can usually be played as cliche and overly sympathetic, so ontop of the unique attributes on a changling it just sort of adds the 'mary-sue' pot.
but it most certainly isn't a comment on actual disabilities and you shouldn't jump to that sort of conclusion.

but that's just my thoughts.
I'm not saying they are right about the character nor am I advocating the blog per say

of course there's a difference between reality and fiction, but I don't see much difference between saying something like "I hate that gay character on Glee" and "I hate that gay kid in homeroom"...

I don't think who ever wrote it actually "hates" people with disabilities, but that sort of attitude does lead to discrimination. So does having an entire show where nobody is disabled, though. It shouldn't be cliche because its something that people have to deal with in real life and shouldn't be a big deal- but yeah I guess it can be considered "different" in the sense that MLP doesn't deal with that sort of real world issue. I wish it did, since there are a lot of both the original target audience (like my little sister, who, I won't go into it, but she doesn't really relate to any of the characters for that reason) and older fans that I would benefit from a sort of frank discussion and look at it.

People judge people who are different even if it's not with hate, and they think its okay because its not done out of some sort of evil intention, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt just the same. Sorry, this whole thing is just an issue that hits a little close to home, so It might seem like I'm overreacting, but it's something that just really bothers me in RL, and then come here to my art, which is my escape and have to deal with the same sort of attitudes is very frustrating and heartbreaking.

((I also think it's kinda silly to believe that every single changeling - a species able to change its appearance at will- is all going to look the same- but that's not what upset me about it. ))

thanks for your input, though. Thank you for being constructive.

no I see what you're saying really, its kind of like that whole deal with the one MLP group that didn't allow same sex pairings.
while its fiction and everything it still suggested a homophobic nature, which turned out to be true.
but in this particular case I don't think it was meant to offend actual cripples since again a handicap like that can be a mary-sue trait.
no I don't think it always is, it completely depends on how the character is played.
but that blog doesn't really judge by anything other then design >>
which I personally think is stupid but that's neither here nor there.
I just think it was stated to mean like 'oh look, a little hurt pony, must be all emo and shit' kind of deal you know?

but I understand why it would sting and I sympathize, really I'm just trying to help you a bit by explaining that's its likely not what they meant.

and I agree about the changlings but like you said I can at least understand where that comes from.

as for why MLP wouldn't deal with that sort of thing, they probably would think its just a little to deep for its target demographic.
while that's not necessarily true I can understand it.
its sort of like how I wish they would canonize Lyra/BonBon or something just so it could teach kids to be accepting toward gays but I get why they can't.
it would be the Derpy fiasco all over again.
moral guardians and all....ugh I hate that.
but the target demographic is like 6-8 and that's pretty young
I think this sort of thing it better dealt with in kids shows for older kids.
a least a little.

You managed to make a Changeling cute.

Why does it seem all of dA is attempting to melt my brain with adorableness today? (I'm...not entirely sure that'd be a bad thing, though.)
