Deathflame's Family : Autumn Trotby *SpatialHeather

This is

's Deathflame (right) with Zecora (left) and their two kiddos.

This one is chronologically before the other pieces I've done of them ( [link] & [link] ) as Bakora is still in the filly stage and Lueur is barely past newborn. Bakora's age is hard to perfect since she is so lean, so I tried to counter act her physiology's effect on her apparent age by really rounding her markings into cute, oval-like shapes instead of the hard pointed flames she sports in the previous pictures.
Another issue was conveying movement. I only have a limited arsenal of non-stationary front-angles for quadropeds, and even if i look at this too hard their movement seems to turn stationary in my head, but I tried a few tricks to counteract that, besides the usual effects of movement on hair, I also tried to show it in Zecora's jewelry and hinting at the ponies' hind legs and quarters.

You may also notice that this piece, like the original, is black-lined instead of color-lined. After comparing the first two pieces I came to the conclusion that color-lining light-coated characters really washes them out against dA's gray background. Bakora is only a few shades different in tone, and really fades into the background in that second piece, while Lueur looks like I left him in the sun too long.
Also effecting my decision to keep this black-lined was the general composistion of the piece. Both of the dark-coated characters are on the right third of the pieces, so if Zecora were to be color-lined, the "weight" on that side of the piece would diminish greatly, and I think, detract from the main focus of the piece, which is Bakora and Zecora's mother-daughter interaction.
However, if ~OblivionAlbawk would like it to be color-lined, I will change it ^^ after all, this is a commission.

Firstly they DO look like they are out on a stroll and the pose does give me a sense of movement from the four.^^
Lueur looks soooo small and adorable on his daddys head like that.;-;
I still like Bakora's design the best me thinks.Maybe even more than deathflame himself.XD She's just so incredibly cute..

I'm so pleased with this picture.>3< I can't even describe it in words.I don't want you to change a thing about it.

However,I hope that one hidden comment on here isn't from a hater of mine.I don't care that I have haters but I'd rather they didn't harass my friends on their artwork.>.>

Overall i'm really surprised how well this came out!^^
